  • You can still get pet insurance if your pet has a pre-existing condition, but that condition (which is pre-existing) may not be covered. Whether the condition is pre-existing will depend on its nature and experience. If your pet has a temporary condition that has not existed, occurred or shown noticeable signs, symptoms or an abnormality in the 18-month period immediately prior to your claim treatment date, it will no longer be excluded from cover as a pre-existing condition. Chronic Conditions and several other specified Conditions cannot fall within this categoryFind out more about pre-existing conditions and other exclusions here.Of course, if you want to have a pre-existing condition reviewed on your policy, you can do this at any time, plus all temporary pre-existing conditions are automatically removed from your pet insurance policy as an exclusion if your pet hasn’t shown signs or symptoms of that condition for 18 months or more. You can download a pre-existing condition review form here.Regardless, it simply makes  sense to get your cover sorted early, so that you know the insurance will be there to help with the vet’s bills when or if the unexpected happens.
