Learn more about Cavoodle dogs to help you choose the dog that’s right for you and your family.

The cute Cavoodle is a relatively new dog breed that is very popular in Australia, particularly for its hypoallergenic qualities and friendly nature. This small designer breed is a cross between the Miniature Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and is also sometimes referred to as Cavadoodle or Cavapoo.

The Cavoodle’s height and weight depend on its parents but range between 25-40 cm and 5-10 kg. This lovable dog with large eyes and soft floppy ears has a thick, fluffy coat that comes in all colours, again depending on its parents.

The Cavoodle hardly sheds, which makes it an ideal dog for people with dog allergies. It does however need grooming, from brushing at home several times a week to regular clipping to control its coat.

Cavoodles are loyal, outgoing dogs that thrive on human companionship and love to take part in family activities. They have a gentle nature, are intelligent and get on very well with children. While quite energetic, they will happily adapt to life in a small home or apartment, provided they are taken on daily walks. These fun-loving dogs are more active than either of their parent breeds and will enjoy regular visits to the dog park.

The Cavoodle is suitable for any lifestyle, as long as you can give your dog the attention it craves. Prone to separation anxiety, the Cavoodle benefits from early socialisation and training. It responds best to fun and positive reinforcement rather than strong discipline.

This is a very healthy breed that is much less susceptible to health problems than either of its parents. First-cross Cavoodles, i.e. dogs with one purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and one purebred Poodle as parents, have better genetic qualities than second-cross or third-cross Cavoodles. The life expectancy of a Cavoodle is 12-15 years.
