The Siberian Husky is a highly active, intelligent dog that’s great with people. Their happy, friendly character makes them ideal to have around children and they’re the perfect dog if you’re looking for a jogging buddy.

Born to run, Huskies (which were known as Chuckchis when they arrived in Alaska from Siberia a century ago) were used to help with transport in the snow by pulling sledges. Their amazing speed and endurance and eagerness to run means they’re still used for sled racing and dog sledding today.

Male Siberian Huskies measure between 53 and 60 cm and weigh 20-27 kg, while females are slightly smaller and lighter. They have a double-layered, medium-length coat that comes in all colours and markings.

The Siberian Husky simply adores people and can’t get enough of human love, touch and attention. If nobody is home at your place during the day, this is not the dog for you. The more time you can spend with your Siberian, the better.

Siberian Huskies have a high level of energy and need a lot of exercise, every single day. They love to run free and are able to jump very high, so it’s important your yard is completely secured with high fencing.

Siberians are very clean dogs that do not have the typical ‘doggy smell’. They do shed but only need the occasional brushing. Originating from a cold climate, Siberian Huskies like the cold and while it can adapt to warmer weather, you’ll need to consider whether your location is the best for this dog and always take extra precautions during hot weather.

A very healthy breed with no breed-specific ailments except possibly eye problems, the Siberian Husky often lives to 16 years or more.
